MIOS has been developing Service-Learning in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2009. The first Service-Learning seminars involved teaching staff from Tuzla, Osijek and Novi Sad, and later schools from Bijeljina, Brčko, Šekovići and entire Tuzla Canton municipalities have joined.
In 2016, MIOS met with representatives of the non-governmental sector and educational institutions from Central and Eastern European countries that are applying the Service-Learning methodology within their organizations. The meeting resulted in the creation of a Service-Learning Network for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE SU Network), which, although informal, brings together people and organizations united around the same idea – the dissemination of the Service-Learning methodology in the countries of the region.
With the support of the Latin American Center for Service-Learning and Solidarity (CLAYSS), in October 2017, MIOS organized the First Week of Service-Learning in Sarajevo, a multi-day event that brought together CEE Network representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro , Slovenia, Albania, Kosovo, Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Germany, Turkey and Argentina. Participants were able to exchange experiences, practice, and plan joint activities in the future.
Since then, CEE Network partners have been actively meeting to promote sharing of experiences, shared learning and understanding as collaboration and support to make Service-Learning in the region stronger.
